About Us

Music to grow to started in February 2006, and was the initiative of Kathryn Rowland following the birth of her daughter, Summerly, in November 2005.  With a strong tradition in music making, spending the last 10 years working creatively with music in various settings ranging from swimming pools to prisons to hospitals and schools, Kathryn knows the values of music making for all people.

All Music to Grow to sessions are led by highly qualified professional musicians ensuring that the session is led in an appropriate way for the age group it is intended.  Live singing and live instrumental playing are key factors in the sessions, as well as movement and interaction.

Traditional nursery rhymes and songs are used, but in addition we have a collection of specially written songs that are written for the different groups with special sections for creative play.

Cadenzas are the youngest of our groups, starting at 0 going up to 1 year.  Lots of singing and moving in these groups – we hear the voice of our parent / carer being really important in these early stages of life.

Crescendos are next, going up to 2 years.  As we get bigger and start to move around, we get some bigger and louder instruments to play, and even start to do some actions to our songs.

Composers are the oldest of our groups from 2 years upwards, and in this group we really have the opportunity to start making musical choices, and composing and creating our very own music.

Conductors are coming soon, and will be from 3 years up to 5.  Currently this age group is together with Composers working well, but as Music to Grow to grows so can our groups!

Tutti! is the group when everyone plays together.  This works really well in some settings and is currently the way it works in Cambridge.

All of the groups and ages are provided as a guide and you should speak with your leader to ensure that your child is in the right one for his / her development.
