Kathryn Rowland graduated from Southampton University with a BA (Hons) in Music in 1996.  As a professional musician, with a keen interest in music and the effect it can have, saw her follow a career path working for two of the most prestigious orchestras in the country – Philharmonia Orchestra and Britten Sinfonia.  For five years Kathryn was Community & Education Director for Britten Sinfonia developing an integrated and diverse programme of activities ranging from workshops in prisons to nurseries to swimming pools!  In 2006, influenced by the birth of her daughter Summerly, and the desire for her to attend high quality music classes from a young age, Kathryn initiated Music to Grow to, and now looks after all the development and new partnerships in the Eastern region.  Her son Noah was born in June 2009 and is looking forward to going to his mum's music classes! Kathryn writes the new songs for Music to Grow to along with her husband Jason, also a professional musician – go to the Music page to listen to some excerpts (coming soon).

Kathryn will be leading all classes in Ely, Cambridge and Foxton from January 2010.

As well as Music to Grow to, Kathryn:

  • leads music workshops for London Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

  • recently sang hello to 2000 people at the Cambridge Corn Exchange at the culmination of a project she was leading in children's centres in Cambridge for Philharmonia Orchestra and Cambridge Music Festival.

  • is currently managing and leading workshops, as part of a year long project, in Fenland in four pre-schools and their associated toddler groups - "First Steps into the Fens".

  • is Project Manager for Music for Life, Wigmore Hall in London, which is a project which sees professional musicians working with people with dementia.

  • is a mentor for the Trinity Guildhall and Open University KS2 Music CPD Programme, offering guidance to teachers wishing to develop their Wider Opportunities teaching throughout the Eastern region.
